I first visited New York for my 22nd Birthday with family and I absolutely loved it. I just knew it would be one of those places which I would return to again and again. With that being said I don't know why 11 years have passed between this visit and my last, so I decided it was about time I returned.
After our scenic drive up to Miami Beach from Key West, we dropped off our hire car at Miami airport and caught a taxi to our new home for the remainder of our trip - the Grand Beach Hotel Surfside. This hotel is located in the town of Surfside, about 8 miles north from the famous South Beach.
After 6 amazing days in Walt Disney World, we checked out and left our hotel early to start our 500 mile journey to Key West. We looked at a few different routes online, but settled on the west coast route allowing us to visit Naples and the Everglades before reaching the famous U.S. Route 1, the highway to Key West. Starting in Maine, on the Canadian border, and ending at Key West, this is the longest north-south highway in the United States.
Early on our first morning, after spending the night at the Miami Sheraton, we picked up our hired car from the car hire depot across the road from the hotel, and set out on our journey to Walt Disney World Orlando. We hadn't planned to visit any of the Disney parks until the following day, so we took our time and made our way up the scenic coastal route. We started out on Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, and headed up towards Palm Beach.
By booking a mid-afternoon flight, I avoided having to get out of bed at such an unsociable hour, like I have been used to on many of my recent trips. We arrived at Heathrow shortly after 10am and walked over to the British Airways First Class check-in area. We were met by a member of staff, who had approached us before we had even reached the counter. He asked where we were flying to, and took us to the next available check-in agent who checked us on to our Miami flight quickly and efficiently.
For those of us in the UK, the clocks have now been turned back and the early nights are drawing in. I have had a great summer and visited some fantastic destinations, but I'm now looking forward to the cooler months, and all the wonderful winter escapes that I have planned. Here are some of the amazing destinations I'll be visiting this winter. Where are you off to?
